Latest Consoomer Thoughts 2026

Feb. 2nd 2026

After my big fat spending spree last month, I’ve taken another look at my finances and noticed how well things are looking. Despite my lack of work full time and sharing financial breathing room with my wife, I’ve managed to save a handsome sum of money by abandoning consoomer habits encouraged by society. I haven’t really had to replace anything beyond my phone and I’m doing pretty well for myself. I’m managing my car and other expenses pretty nicely and I’m not making many impulse purchases anymore. As a matter of fact, as a part of my new years’ resolution to work full time and obtain freedom from addiction, I’ve decided that I want to save as much money as possible. However, this doesn’t mean that I want to abandon doing fun things or being a miser with my money. Mostly it means dropping out of modern pursuits as much as possible.
I home cook as much as possible and reserve restaurant outings for just me and my wife. I don’t pay for streaming or entertainment and my gaming consumption habits have largely ceased this past year. My car is paid off and barring some horrific accident I plan to drive it as long as I can. I’m blessed with good health and don’t have to worry about drowning in medical debt just yet. Basically, my focus is on building as much of a financial security cushion as possible this year. I do need to liquidate some things but I ultimately want to focus just on myself. What can I do differently this year to succeed? How can I reclaim my focus from these various online distractions?
Abandoning the things that no longer bring me joy seem to be the easiest. Gaming has been culled down, now I just need to cull down youtube and other website time. Especially 4chan and news sites. While I haven’t solved the issue with procrastinating necessarily, I feel way better off than I was before. I wonder if I’d be better off just doing that from now on and only turning the wifi on when necessary?
